Brazen car thieves flaunt their crime

POLICE are on the lookout for a group of teenagers who stole two cars from an Oregon St home in Deeragun.
Police were called to the property at 5.15am on Monday after the occupants woke to find their vehicles missing.
Resident Lisa Crow said her husband woke to discover the garage door open and the vehicles gone.
She said her handbag, a laptop, her husband’s phone and their keys were also missing. “It was pretty horrific,” she said. “To think we were asleep and somebody was in our house ... we’ve had to change all our locks.”
The black 2010 Hyundai ix35 and the gold 2005 Hyundai Tuscan were spotted numerous times throughout the day with members of the public posting information on community Facebook pages.
One woman wrote she had seen both cars doing skids at the Warriors Football Club in Garbutt, while another posted that they had seen the vehicles speeding “recklessly” on Nonda St, Kirwan.
Ms Crow said they had also tracked the offenders’ movements through her husband’s phone.
“They were driving all over town,” she said. “For them to be so blatant all day ... I thought when the sun came up they would just dump the cars because they’d had their joy ride. I don’t think we’ll get much sleep tonight.”
Ms Crow believed the offenders gained access to their home with a garage remote.
“Apparently these kids have garage remotes and they just wander the streets to see which ones will work,” she said.
A police spokeswoman said they had received several reports of the vehicles driving erratically. Police were still searching for the offenders last night.
