Commissioner Stewart said officers in the Moreton Police District developed the state-wide campaign that highlighted the importance of making a choice when it came to dealing with violence.

“Today I am pleased to launch three Community Service Announcements that will be seen on several TV stations in Queensland in coming weeks,” Commissioner Stewart said.

“The videos outline three scenarios, each tailored to offenders, bystanders and victims.

“Each scenario shows that at any given time the offender could walk away, the bystanders could step in or the victim in certain circumstances could choose to not escalate the situation.

“Everybody has the right to safety and a life without fear. That’s why we are here today.

“We all have an individual responsibility. It’s a simple message but it’s universal.”

Community consultation was a key factor to the development of the campaign after the project team took the concept to schools, patrons of pubs and clubs and the general public.

NRL Ambassador Petero Civoniceva is the face of the campaign and supports the message that everyone has a choice.

“In November I visited a school as part of the focus group with the project team and I was impressed at how rational and switched on the kids were about violence and how it could affect them,” Mr Civoniceva said.

“I believe the Community Service Announcement ads incorporate the sentiment that was expressed in the focus groups and I am proud to be part of this campaign and I believe in the message.”
