A letter was sent home with students to inform parents of the incident, which occurred about 8.15am Friday at Overton Circuit while a Year 5 student was walking to school.
The man urged the girl to approach the vehicle and asked her if she had seen his dog before she realised he was naked. The girl fled and took refuge at a friend’s house before police were notified.
The school advised parents in the letter to be vigilant and to have students travel to and from school in groups.“If your children ride or walk unaccompanied in this area then you may wish to adopt more vigilant and secure methods of travel,” the letter stated. “I would suggest that children walk or ride with friends or family and avoid areas off the main road if possible. “You should also discuss ‘safe places to go’ with your children.”
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said Kirwan police responded to the incident on Friday and the Child Protection Investigation Unit were now investigating. “We interviewed several people on Friday,” he said “Police have also stepped up patrols around school zones.”
Police said they only had a vague description of the man, who was estimated to be in his twenties with facial stubble. He was seen driving a late-model white, four-door van with a spoiler on the rear. It comes after police launched a massive search to find a man who was approaching female joggers at Riverway and propositioning them for sex earlier this year.
Police warned female joggers to not exercise along at the popular recreational facility after three similar incidents, believed to be committed by the same man.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the latest incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
